My name is Inna Kolomiiets. I’m a Calgary‑based English–Ukrainian Community, Medical, and Court Interpreter. I hold a Master’s degree in International Relations and Translation Studies from my home country, Ukraine.

I began my freelance translation career in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2016, where I translated the Wonderful Indonesia website for the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia.

After arriving in Canada, I began another life‑changing journey: becoming a Community Interpreter. I completed the Labour Market Bridging Program (LMB) for Community Interpreters through CIWA (Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association) in September 2023. In October, I became a recipient of the Ron Ghitter Scholarship, which allowed me to continue my professional development in the interpreting field.

Today, I am an active interpreter in Alberta. I maintain strong ethical integrity and take pride in the quality of my work

I continue to fulfil my passion for interpreting by helping newly arrived Ukrainians in Calgary be heard and understood as they navigate Canadian medical and legal systems. I interpret during medical appointments, Red Seal exams, examinations for discovery, interviews at the U.S. Consulate, and more..

What is the difference between an interpreter and a translator?

An interpreter is a professional linguist who translates verbal communication from one language to another in real time.
A translator is a professional linguist who translates written communication from one language to another.

Why interpreters charge a two-hour minimum?

The two-hour minimum is standard for onsite interpreters. They usually arrive 15 minutes before an assignment. Interpreters must also travel between assignments.

What is an affidavit?

A document becomes an affidavit when a person signs the document, in the presence of an authorized person, after taking an oath that what the document says is true and accurate. An affidavit is often used in order to verify that a translation of a document accurately reflects what is stated in the original language of the document.

What is Notarized Translation?

I provide notarized translations because I don’t have ATIA certification. I mention in the affidavit that I am fluent in both target (English) and source (Ukrainian) languages and that I have prepared the translation accurately. My personal translator’s stamp will be put on every translated page.
