My name is Inna Kolomiiets. I’m a Calgary-based English-to-Ukrainian translator and interpreter. I have a Master’s degree in International Relations and Translation Studies from my native country, Ukraine. I have lived in six countries and started working as a freelance translator in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2016, translating the website Wonderful Indonesia for the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia.

After arriving in Canada, I started another life-changing journey: becoming a Community interpreter. I completed the Labour Market Bridging Program (LMB) for Community Interpreters from CIWA (Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association) in September 2023. In October I became a successful recipient of the Ron Ghitter Scholarship, which helped me to pursue further my education in community interpreting.

Currently I’m an active Community interpreter in Calgary. I have strong ethical integrity and take pride in everything I do.

I continue to fulfil my passion for interpreting, helping non-profit organizations of Calgary to craft a seamless dialogue with Ukrainian new immigrants by interpreting settlement sessions, medical appointments, parents – students conferences,  Red Seal exams, legal clinics, training sessions at warehouses and construction companies etc. My area of specialization is education, healthcare, immigration and social services.

What is the difference between an interpreter and a translator?

An interpreter is a professional linguist who translates verbal communication from one language to another in real time.
A translator is a professional linguist who translates written communication from one language to another.

Why interpreters charge a two-hour minimum?

The two-hour minimum is standard for onsite interpreters. They usually arrive 15 minutes before an assignment. Interpreters must also travel between assignments.

What is an affidavit?

A document becomes an affidavit when a person signs the document, in the presence of an authorized person, after taking an oath that what the document says is true and accurate. An affidavit is often used in order to verify that a translation of a document accurately reflects what is stated in the original language of the document.

The above is taken from official source

What is Notarized Translation?

I provide notarized translations because I don’t have ATIA certification. I mention in the affidavit that I am fluent in both target (English) and source (Ukrainian) languages and that I have prepared the translation accurately. My personal translator’s stamp will be put on every translated page.
